York Announces Fall Special Events

The York Theatre Company (James Morgan, Producing Artistic Dir; Andrew Levine, Executive Dir) will launch its 45th anniversary season with a series of Special Events. Upcoming events include On the Air: Songs for Marian McPartland (Sept 26 - 28) a musical tribute honoring the legendary radio host, starring vocalist and radio personality Stacy Sullivan, with Jon Weber, on piano.  Next up will be A Maestro’s Memoirs: An Evening with Broadway’s Donald Pippin (Tues Sept 30) with the legendary Broadway conductor and featuring Debbie GravitteNat Chandler.  After 50 years’ association with Broadway Musicals, and as guest conductor with major symphony orchestras, Donald Pippin will share his “inside” stories in a performance that wows with its spectacular combination of music, narrative and visuals that captures the defining moments in his life and career. Next, the York partners with producers Amy Engelhardt and Heather Shields to present a new game show for musical theater lovers called Tune in Time, hosted by Emily McNamara with music direction by Nate Buccieri, with Sheila Head as the annoyingly insistent timekeeper.  In this “musical theater Olympics,” three teams of composers and lyricists – who have never worked together – are forced to collaborate – and to beat the clock!  Their task is to write a song for a new Broadway musical, the title of which is picked from a hatful of audience suggestions, in a style determined by a spin of the dreaded “Genre Wheel” – all within 20 minutes.  Each edition features a different roster of musical theater composters and lyricists as well as a panel of celebrity judges who pick the winner. The event will have four perfs on Oct 14, Oct 28, Nov 11 & Dec 2. For additional information, please visit the website at www.yorktheatre.org. Press contact: O&M Co (695-7400)...
