“The Violet Hour” recreates an era early in the “American Century.”   A fledgling book publisher begins the work day searching through his cluttered Manhattan office for the evening’s theatre tickets, but soon he is trying to find a way to pick the first manuscript he will publish, either a massive tome by his best  friend  or the autobiography of his lover.
