“Brighton Beach Memoirs” originally opened on Mar 27 1983 at the Alvin (Neil Simon) under the auspices of Emanuel Azenberg, Wayne M Rogers & Radio City Music Hall Productions. Gene Saks directed a cast which was headed by Matthew Broderick (Eugene). This production was scheduled to run in repertory with Broadway Bound, but closed before Broadway Bound began previews.
