"for colored girls..." is a choreopoem that tells the stories of seven Black women using poetry, song and movement. With unflinching honesty and emotion, each woman voices her survival story of having to exist in a world shaped by sexism and racism.
For The Record:
"for colored girls..." originally premiered in 1976. The Public presented it in the Fall of 2019, directed by Leah C Gardiner and choreographed by Ms Brown. This production was delayed due to COVID 19. It was originally scheduled to begin Previews on March 4, 2022 and Open on March 24, 2022. Originally slated to close on August 14, 2022, the production moved its closing date up.
