For long-time friends and occasional lovers Vicomte de Valmont and Marquise de Merteuil, love is simply a game of chess. But in a few false moves, they find themselves locked in the ultimate checkmate. Filled with seduction, betrayal, and plenty of illicit passion, this dark comedy paints the pre-Revolutionary French aristocracy in all its cynicism and decadence.
Following a 1986 run in the West End, “Les Liaisons Dangereuses” opened on B’way on Apr 30, 1987 at the Music Box under the auspices of James M Nederlander, The Shubert Organization, Jerome Minskoff, Elizabeth I McCann & Stephen Grahm. Howard Davies directed a cast which featured Lindsay Duncan & Alan Rickman. A film version was released in 1988 by Lorimar Film Entertainment. Stephen Frears directed a cast which featured Glenn Close, John Malkovich, Michelle Pfeiffer, Swoosie Kurtz, Keanu Reeves & Uma Thurman.
