“Old Acquaintance” is about two childhood friends who have grown into very different adults. Though they are both successful authors, independent Katharine “Kit” Markham carries on an affair with a younger man while divorcee Mildred “Milly” Drake refuses to loosen the apron-strings on her teenage daughter, Deirdre. But when Deirdre’s struggles to become more like her idol Kit have far-reaching consequences, the two women who thought they were growing apart may have much more in common than they’d like to admit.
“Old Acquaintance” opened on Dec 23, 1940 at the Morosco under the auspices of Dwight Deere Wiman. Auriol Lee directed a cast which starred Jane Cowl & Peggy Wood. In 1943, a film starring Bette Davis & Miriam Hopkins and directed by Vincent Sherman was released by Warner Bros.
