In Tulsa, Oklahoma, 1967, the hardened hearts and aching souls of Ponyboy Curtis, Johnny Cade and their chosen family of "outsiders" are in a fight for survival and a quest for purpose in a world that may never accept them. A story of the bonds that brothers share and the hopes we all hold on to, this gripping new musical reinvigorates the timeless tale of "haves and have nots," of protecting what’s yours and fighting for what could be. Based on the novel by SE Hinton, and the film directed by Francis Ford Coppola.

For The Record:

The World Premiere at the Goodman was planned for the Summer of 2020, before cancellation due to COVID-19. It eventually played its World Premiere at the La Jolla Playhouse in February 2023. A reading took place in NYC in March 2019, and a lab was held in August 2020. The original director was Liesl Tommy, and the choreographer was Lorin Lotarro. The 1983 film was directed by Francis Ford Coppola and featured C Thomas Howell, Matt Dillon, Ralph Macchio, PatrickSwayze, Rob Lowe, Emilio Estevez, and Tom Cruise.
