“The Threepenny Opera” originally opened on B’way at the Empire Theatre on Apr 13, 1933 under the auspices of John Krimsky & Gifford Cochran. Francesco Von Mendelssohn staged the production, and the cast featured Robert Chisholm (Macheath), Marjorie Dille (Jenny) & Steffi Duna (Polly). It has subsequently had five B’way revivals, the last of which starred Sting as Macheath and opened at the Lunt-Fontanne on Nov 5, 1989.
