The 1963 play by Dale Wasserman, based on the novel by Ken Kesey about the antics of the rebellious Randle Patrick McMurphy, who faked insanity to serve out his prison sentence for battery and gambling in a mental hospital. The head administrative nurse, Mildred Ratched, rules the ward with a mailed fist and with little medical oversight resulting in McMurphy leading a revolt against her.

The original production of “One Flew...” opened at the Cort on Nov 13, 1963 under the auspices of David Merrick and Edward Lewis. Alex Segal directed a cast which included Kirk Douglas, Joan Tetzel, Ed Ames, William Daniels & Gene Wilder.
