A new musical conceived by Rebecca Feldman. Six young people on the edge of puberty strive to become adults, competing in The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee. These outsiders use competition to define themselves, apart from their families, while their struggle to escape childhood is overseen by grown-ups who never completely succeeded in escaping it themselves.

The World Premiere of “The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee” was given by the Barrington Stage Company in Sheffield, MA in July 2004 under the direction of Michael Unger & Rebecca Feldman. The New York Premiere was given by Second Stage, where it opened on Feb 7, 2005 (to 3/20).
